where can i find a cheaper version of renee zellweger's red 2003 oscar gown? a lot of prom retailers had a version of the dress for sale a couple of years ago, but i have yet to find it lately, any information on a retailer or boutique where i might find one would be greatly appreciated. it is the red one with a deep front cut that's semi-sheer, it's form-fitting, and has somewhat of a train in back.
Does anyone have tips for an Oscar-winner costume for a preteen? My daughter is in seventh grade, but a little short for her age. She has the idea of going as an Oscar winner, holding a fake Oscar and have a long gown with dripping mascara, as though she were crying. Any tips on how I can make a decent costume for her? I need a good dress and maybe a wig. Share your ideas! We want to be over the top. Thank you!
Help with Oscar de la Renta dress? I am having trouble deciding between a vintage c. 1962 Givenchy gown and my Oscar de la Renta. Both are beautiful, but I don't know if the OLR is too casual. Which sounds more impressive going by the description ALONE? I am not going to bother with pics. I just want to know what SOUNDS better. Spank you very much!
Why do so called fashion "experts" make fun of Oscar attendees clothes? These actresses work from sun up with huge staffs and come out with the most gorgeous gowns possible. Most look like work of arts but the commentators come out with the stupidest comments and thumbs downs. Are they blind, mean, or just trying to make money? That one America's Top Model expert with the blonde hair sounds like an idiot! What does he know I change the channels as soon as the gratitutious insults fly. They are ridiculous!
Should Al Gore walk to the Oscar Awards tonight? I mean with Global Warming and all, you'd think that he would at least take public transportation. Assuming that exists in Hollywood to begin with. And the same question applies to all of those Academy Members who, I predict, will give Big Al an Oscar for his movie "An Inconvenient Truth". Wouldn't it be a beautiful sight to see all of those starlets in their rented designer gowns and jewelry stepping off the same bus that says "Route 910-Beverly Hills" ? Sidebar to Elana: In a future question I will address the general question of how much carbon we should each be allowed to emit, and should some people get a bigger allotment than others.
what do you call that cut/style in gowns? what do you call that cut in gowns where it's hip hugging all the way to the knees and then it flares out past that..? Like in this picture of J.Lo in the 2002 oscars http://oscars.movies.yahoo.com/photos/photo.html;_ylt=AqtHZIBFkcjcnpUla8XSshN2VLcF?gid=21&pos=117
What Could I Buy An Elegant Evening Gown Online? I'm looking for a dress that is Oscar worthy, something Halle Berry would be proud to wear. Also, I would like something flowy and long and a detailed bust area. If you could find something like this, it would absolutely AMAZING!!!!
I'm having an 'An evening at the Oscars' 21st Birthday Party? I'm having a themed 21st, 'Night At the Oscars', where men will wear black tie and women ball gowns. To make the night more fun and original I am having a red carpet, celebrity cardboard cut outs, lots of decorations and buying mini Oscars off the internet, I have looked online for funny awards, but they all seem to be directed at employees, but I need some awards that can be used for my friends. Have you got any ideas please?? Thanks

The second celebration: Then they are having her mom and dad and his mom and dad get picked up in a limo to be driven to the st.patricks cathedral. The whole family is going to this one. Then they bought three suites at the ritz carlton: One for her parents, his parents and them. She has a different gown too . Should I change dresses between wedding ceremony and reception (I'm a guest)? I'm going to a black tie wedding and got a very fancy gown (something one might wear to the Oscars) for the event, which is at the Ritz Hotel. However, I just realized that the ceremony is at a church, and not only do I now have to worry about the proper coat (it's on the East Coast) to put over my dress, I'm wondering if it's not too fancy of a gown for a daytime church wedding. Do I wear one thing to the wedding and the nice gown to the reception? What's the etiquette?
Clever teen Halloween costume? Two years ago I was a fully-functioning homemade iPod, before all the other iPod costumes came out, and then last year I was an Oscar winner with a fake Oscar and gown with mascara running down my face like I was crying because I just won. I was going to be the Energizer Bunny this year but the drum is bulky and in front of my face, and without the drum I'm just a prude bunny. I'm looking for something people my age and like my generation will understand. Also, I don't want to be prude and I don't want to be sexy or anything. Please help :( Oh, also something clever like my previous costumes or the Energizer bunny... Thanks!
Is a trunk show cheaper than normal designer prices? I fell in love with an Oscar de la Renta dress but it's out of my price range. After receiving many tips on how to get a less expensive version, I figured it would be good to see the gown again in person before trying to get someone to make it. Maybe I could even take my own pictures of it. Anyways, I found a bridal salon about 90 minutes from my house that is having a trunk show for Oscar de la Renta gowns in less than a month! Does that mean it's any less expensive though? Is a trunk show and a sample sale the same thing? I'm really new to all of this and I don't really know what I'm doing, but any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!
Help! What should I wear to the oscars tomorrow night? I have a cute knee length dress which is darling, but I'm not sure if that's what guests can wear. I don't want to be too pretentious by wearing a floor length gown when I'm not going to be anywhere near the front, but I don't want to look underdressed.

I am so bad at writing I need help on this please! I need your advice? THE QUESTION IS........What do you expect from a college education? How will it help you reach your life and career goals?. I want someone to wear my gowns and make everyone’s head turn. I have always been drawn into Fashion Designing because I want to help someone feel good in what they are wearing. I know my talents have to be challenged to grow. Vera Wang is truly an inspiration, to get to that level of prestige and perfectionism is a life goal. Melissa Smart is a new favorite of mine too because she has the same taste I bring into my designs. My second designer I admire is Vera Wang because I want to get to that level of vision and prestige. If I’m accepted into The Art Institute of San Francisco I will not let anyone down. This degree help will work along side more people and it will also help me grow as a person. I have never been surer about anything in all of my life. Just a few months ago I watched an old clip of the Oscars on a website, youtube. When I saw them walk the red carpet I felt in awe. I felt in awe because it’s like watching a masterpiece come to life. Education is priceless and it's a hard thing to come by. I’m interested in this school because I know that this is the right place for me to learn how to become more independent, most importantly I will learn the fundamentals that makes a designer successful. I want to be able to create a couture gown not for fame but because it as always been my dream

What do you think of this monologue? Does this sound like a dramatic monolouge to you? I need it to try out for a play. This... 'stuff'? Oh... ok. I see, you think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select out, oh I don't know, that lumpy blue sweater, for instance, because you're trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. But what you don't know is that that sweater is not just blue, it's not turquoise, it's not lapis, it's actually cerulean. You're also blindly unaware of the fact that in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. And then I think it was Yves St Laurent, wasn't it, who showed cerulean military jackets? And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers. Then it filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic "casual corner" where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and so it's sort of comical how you think that you've made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you're wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room. From a pile of "stuff."
Duuuuuuude! Is there something FUNNY about Cerulean Blue?!? Duuuuuuude! Oh... ok. I see, you think this has nothing to do with you. Why weren't the Republicans complaining about Laura Bush's aides and her expensive wardrobe? Like they do with Michelle Obama? Baba Wawa (That's Barbara Walters) just interviewed some famous designer the other day. I think it was Oscar De La Renta (sp). And she said: "You've designed many gowns for the First Ladies, but you haven't for First Lady Michelle Obama". Maybe that's because Michelle Obama is always trying to help the AMERICAN struggling young unknown designers who aren't trying to kill her with their prices. All those past First Ladies wore all famous expensive designer gowns by Gucci and the like. They probably wouldn't be caught dead in an unknowns gowns. Like that Asian American designer that designed one of Michelle's gowns. Michelle Obama buys some of her things from J.CREW. Name another First Lady that did that! I'm not starting anything. Go look at the rants started by Repubs about Michelle's aides and her wardrobe! Then you'll see who started it. This was NEVER an issue before! No unknown designer just starting out can charge or get as much for his gowns as famous designers can. Nice try on your part though. Oh, let's not forget how much Laura spent for plates that will probably never ever be used again. 20 times more? More lies from the GOP I see. But what else is new?
List of designer wedding dresses Carrie Bradshaw tries on in SATC the movie? During the Vogue photo shoot when Carrie tries on all those different wedding gowns, what designer's name does she say right before Dior? I know the order goes in the sequence below, but I can't figure out what she says and I've watched the movie too many times to count. Vera Wang, Carolina Herrera, Christian Lacroix, ______, Dior, Oscar De La Renta, and Vivienne Westwood. It sounds like "live-ren" but it's really muffled and it's driving me crazy! :) Thanks!
Urgent Fashion Design Advice? i take a fashion design course, and my latest project is to design a gown to be worn at an oscar-type event. i need to design matching shoes and accessories, even if they're not seen, and i'm not sure what shoes to accessorize it with. the gown has a tie back halter neck of thick organza ribbon, is tight around the bust (which is organza/chiffon/gossamer/voile), and then the gown flows out right under the bust. i'm thinking of having the rest of the gown in a creamy silk or satin fabric. i'm not sure on the color yet, but i would really like some suggestions on the style of shoe to wear with this kind of gown. i was thinking about ornate t-bar (t-strap) heels, pumps, pointy-toed pumps, or pencil heels. If anyone has any other ideas, i would love to hear them.
Black tie optional? We are planning a "oscar / hollywood" themed wedding (not over the top, but it'll definitely be there). What would you think if, as a guest, you received an invitation that said black tie optional? We would like the guests to dress their best, but don't want to require them to go out and purchase ball gowns. Also, what would you wear if it said dress to impress? Pictures are welcome and encouraged! I'm not too worried about what they'll wear, but I think it would be pretty cool if they fit in with the Hollywood glamour we have going. Basically, I don't want anyone to go out of their way, but if they happen to have a nice fancy dress, I don't want them to feel like it's not a nice enough event to wear it to. I mean, come on.. how many of us have prom dresses we could probably fit into, if need be, that would never occur to us to wear to a wedding?
Is Oprah jealous to her best friend Gale? I was watching the After Oscar at the Oprah show. Gale was one of her guest and she was wearing this red gown. For those you saw this show, didn't you noticed that Oprah doesn't seem happy for her friend according to her facial expressions (not the things she's saying).
Has anyone ever ordered a dress from Light In The Box? I decided to order my prom dress from LITB: http://www.lightinthebox.com/The-81st-Oscar-Natalie-Portman-A-line-Sweetheart-Chiffon-Evening-Dress--OSC014-_p46161.html Just wondering if anyone bought a dress from there? I'm sooo skeptical being as there's no picture of the actual dress THEY make, just the Rodarte gown Natalie wore. Did anyone order a pink gown- if so did the color match the swatch on the computer? Please shed some light on this, only if you bought and received one though. thank you!
What you think of this story I wrote? It was Halloween and I had the perfect costume to wear to my cousin Is's party. I was going as Ziggy Stardust. My hair tonight was a bright orange wig, I had on white makeup with colourful streaks down my face and lipstick on and a large jewel stuck to my forehead, I had even stolen one of my sister's blue contact lenses to complete the transformation. I took the seven bus to my cousin's party space where he was having the party. My cousin has me constantly switching back and fourth between She and He, because Is is a Drag Queen, for family and mutual friends I use she, for people I don't know well I use he. “Alice!! You look amazing!!” said Is the moment I walked through the door. She rushed through the crowd of people, grabbed me by the shoulders and hugged me tight. “What are you suppose to be Issy?” I asked grinning and looking around. “ Isn't it obvious?” she sucked her teeth as though I should have known what she was, “I'm Glinda.” she said turning around to show off her pink chiffon gown, silver tiara and long wavy platinum wig that somehow looked stunning with her hazel nut skin tone. “Oh.” was all I could say. “Your supposed to be that Ziggy Starman or whatever right?” she asked, motioning for me to follow her. “Ziggy Stardust, yeah.” I said as I squeezed between people in all kinds of costumes in colours I was sure only existed in the minds of people who did acid, a person as Dorothy here, a person as Oscar Wilde (or are they suppose to be Stephen Fry?) there, I squeezed through the crowd following Is but somewhere along the line I lost her. I kept trying to spot her and squeezing between people to get to who I thought was her but I couldn't find her. 'I am so going to murder you Is. I'm going to cleave your head in with your own high heels.' I finally managed to reach one of the staircase to the hall's balcony. Ashes to ashes played in the background. “Hi!” said the voice of some girl I didn't see right away. I looked around and finally I found her hiding outside. She was in a Star Trek Next Generation uniform shirt with a pair of ripped-knee jeans, round purple sunglasses and despite how cold it was she had no shoes on. “ Ziggy Stardust I take it?” It took me a second for what she was asking to register. “Erm... Yeah. I'm Ziggy Stardust, what are you suppose to be? A 24th century hippie or something?” “No. If I was being that I'd be dresses as a Vulcan in a tie-dye shirt. I'm Major Tom.” she said grinning and crinkling her nose slightly. I smiled back and offered her a cigarette. She held up a joint and shook her head no. “So you like Bowie?” I asked “Adore him. He's one of few men keeping my interest toward men open.” “Bisexual?” She inhaled a bit of her joint. “No. Omnisexual, I'd do Guys, I'd do girls, I'd do pretty much anything as long as its sentient and I'm attracted to it. You?” “Lesbian who'd gladly do Bowie. He's the only man I'd do. The Evangelicals want to change my sexuality they have to get him to be my husband. No other man would do. May I have a puff of that?” She handed over the pot cig and I took a puff too. “ Your very pretty you know. Would you like to maybe-” I placed the cigarette in an ashtray and nodded. She moved closer to me and kissed me gently on my lips and down my neck. We were out on the balcony for about forty-five minutes, just having 'fun.' Then we went downstairs and had a few drinks. I woke up the next morning in a beautiful turquoise room in a bed with a canopy of yellow and I was wrapped in a blanket of orange and dressed in a sweatshirt that I didn't own. Sleeping next me was the girl I had spent some time with the night before. I was still tired so I fell back asleep. About three hours late I woke up and she was sitting on the edge of the bed reading. “You had like four margaritas and passed out, so I took you home. I'm Myrtle by the way.” she said, reaching to help be out of bed. “What was your name again?” “Alice.” I said. I was still so tired. “Well Alice, welcome down the rabbit hole.”
How are you doing with the Roman Polanski "mistake" thing today? Originally published 04:45 a.m., October 1, 2009, updated 08:51 a.m., October 1, 2009 Polanski Case Sparks Noisy Culture Debate Jennifer Harper The crime is more than three decades old, but the battle has just begun. The rekindled legal case of film director Roman Polanski has set off a noisy culture war, pitting Hollywood values against traditional American decency, feminists, international officials and the proverbial long arm of law. "He's a criminal. He is a convicted criminal pedophile," said Terry O'Neill, president of the National Organization for Women. "I'm not in the middle here. How dare Roman Polanski think he could get away with this? I believe he has banked on men - powerful decision makers - who are more intent on protecting rapists than children. This is the world Polanski is exploiting. It's outrageous." The controversy has even reached the White House. Asked by a reporter Wednesday whether President Obama was considering a pardon for the longtime fugitive, press secretary Robert Gibbs said, "I don't know of any pending pardon request." He quickly added, "The president believes pedophiles should be prosecuted." But many in the international creative community have raced to defend one of their own. An army of prominent film artists, European apologists and liberal heavyweights has mustered to defend the Oscar-winning filmmaker, indicted in 1977 in the drugging and rape of a 13-year-old girl and finally arrested in Switzerland on Saturday. Now 76 and a French citizen, Polanski sits in a Swiss jail awaiting extradition to the U.S. as sympathizers cast him in the role of martyr. "We have learned the astonishing news of Roman Polanski's arrest by the Swiss police on September 26th, upon arrival in Zurich, while on his way to a film festival where he was due to receive an award for his career in filmmaking," stated a public petition signed by Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, John Landis, Debra Winger and 140 other artistic luminaries. "The arrest of Roman Polanski in a neutral country, where he assumed he could travel without hindrance, ... opens the way for actions of which no one can know the effects," the petition said. Outspoken celebrities have been caught up in their own skirmishes as the Polanski case has escalated. Comedian and actress Whoopi Goldberg - who remarked on ABC's "The View" that the incident was not " 'rape' rape" - now has her own critics. "Just for the record, rape is rape. This is one Hollywood star who does not celebrate or defend Roman Polanski. His art did not rape her," countered actress Kirstie Alley in a Twitter message to her fans. A second pro-Polanski petition - this one signed by novelist Salman Rushdie and director Mike Nichols, among many others - demands: "We ask the Swiss courts to free Polanski immediately and not to turn this ingenious filmmaker into a martyr of a politico-legal imbroglio that is unworthy of two democracies like Switzerland and the United States." "We should have been celebrating the arrest of Osama bin Laden and not the arrest of Polanski," actor Peter Fonda said Wednesday. "He is not responsible for killing anyone." Like many of his fellow thespian supporters, Mr. Fonda noted that Polanski's young victim, Samantha Geimer, - now 43 and a mother of three - has asked that the case be dismissed and even attended the recent premiere of a sympathetic documentary about Polanski, posing in a black formal gown for photographers on the red-carpeted walkway. Many of the Hollywood set also point out that Polanski is the "doting father" of two minor children. The French government, which initially expressed outrage over the arrest, has since adopted a more neutral line. "Roman Polanski is neither above nor beneath the law," government spokesman Luc Chatel said at a press conference on Wednesday. "We have a judicial procedure under way, for a serious affair, the rape of a minor, on which the American and Swiss legal systems are doing their job. One can understand the emotion that this belated arrest, more than 30 years after the incident, and the method of the arrest, have caused," Mr. Chatel said. After the 1977 crime, Polanski was charged with giving a controlled substance to a minor, committing a lewd or lascivious act upon a child under 14, unlawful sexual intercourse, rape, perversion and sodomy. He pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse and spent 42 days in jail. Reportedly fearing that the California judge would not honor a plea-bargain deal he had struck with prosecutors over the length of his jail term, Polanski jumped bail, fled the country and settled in Europe before he could be sentenced. The case has remained in judicial limbo ever since. A growing number of critics do not appear ready to forgive Polanski.
