What would you wear to a red carpet movie premiere?

My friends cousin plays the main roll in the upcoming star trek movie. He and his studio have guaranteed us tickets to the premiere. This raises the question: what to wear? The premiere is in May so, I have time to shop. For a premire is it gowns, or shorter dresses? What designers would be appropriate for the event? Would a designer dress from saks or neiman marcus be appropriate? As a background for like attire guidlines: I will be almost sixteen durring the event, am 5'9" and 115 pounds.
