Does anyone know why Ellen Degeneres became gay?

It's not that I have a problem with her being gay. It's just that she would have looked prettier being a woman than a lesbian. She's really pretty and I think she would look nicer if she wears a gown instead of a suit on the red carpet. Does anyone know how she became gay? Did she show signs of being gay before comming out?
