Do you think any of the women Oscar nominees will auction their dresses to buy food for starving children?
Why not add a bit of charitable usefulness to Oscar night and have an ebay type auction for the dresses worn that night with the proceeds going to feed the hungry children around the world? The stars have their political agendas in their thank yous... this year it being global green... I hope next year, they will put food in the mouths of malnurished children and walk the talk of their liberal philosophy that is fueled by their capatilistic big business riches.

- Are you kidding. Never happen. They only care about themselves.
- what an argument... why not stop pointing others out and auction all of your stuff for charity?
- thats a good idea; i would, i mean you only wear it once and im sure everyone would want to buy it and you'd be doing something good =)
- Aye aye... Wouldn't that be fantastic? If they start putting their money where their mouths are, they'll probably stop talking.
- wouldn't bet on it
- I think if they do auction them off they get to decide whic hone the money goes to
- Yea, I will believe that when I see it !
- Some will (it's not as if they can ever wear it again!). Try checking out the website for Clothes off Our Back, which has already started auctioning some items. http://www.clothesoffourback.org/categories.php
- For the most part the women do not own the dresses they wear. They are loaned to them by designers and the have to return them. Same with the jewelry
- They usually do auction off their dresses for charity. They did last year.
- Stars like Nicole Kidman would. But most wouldn't, which sucks!
- Actually, Jane Kaczmarek (from Malcolm in the Middle) has a charity where celebrities can donate clothes that are then passed on to women who might need them for job interviews, jobs or normal daily wear. Obviously, this wouldn't include Oscar gowns, but at least it's a step in the right direction! (It's actually possible that she might take dresses like this in and sell or auction them and give the proceeds to charity- not sure though. )
- I don't think they actually own any of their dresses. Do they?
- Most of them wear the dresses as models for the different designer houses, so the dresses might not be theirs to give. If the dresses are personally theirs, lets face it, who in their right minds would buy it? The movie stars fittings are specifically for their bodies only, no one would be an exact duplicate. Having said that, its a big wide world and who knows, maybe someone will buy them on line. Correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I can recall ,the valuable dresses that people bid for are from the collections of those who have passed away, such as Marilyn Monroe and Lady Di.
- i guess some of them will... but most of them wont!
- I think the dresses and jewellery are on loan from some of the biggest fashion houses. Celebrities are walking advertisments for the labels that they wear! So the celebrities get to look fabulous and the fashion designers get advertised! I like your idea.... maybe the fashion designers should put the clothes up for auction.
- That would actually be cool. But I think some will give it back to the maker....I think. I remember one celeb saying the tag was still on the dress. And that the jewelry for another girls shoes could not be lost or she would have to pay for them.
